As I mentioned in my previous blog post my experience participating in the television series GBC Wise Eyes was so amazing that it needed a post of its own, so here it is.
In 2016 I was approached by GBC to take part in a television series called Wise Eyes. Each episode featured different photographers from Gibraltar. When I was called into the initial interview they asked me what two topics I wanted to talk about in the episode and I decided to talk about my cake smash sessions and the annual body painting event that was going to take place that year.
The show was separated into two parts; an interview filmed in the studio and the live filming of my cake smash and body painting session. Let me just say this wasn’t easy, I was being asked to stand in front of a camera to speak, and to do a session whilst being filmed. One of the reasons why I’m a photographer is because I don’t like being on the other side of the camera, so it was a huge step out of my comfort zone, but I am so glad that I went ahead with it.
It was a really cool first for me and I got to share my experience as a photographer with the rest of Gibraltar. Whilst they were showing the interview part they had a green screen in the background showing some of my favorite images which I had taken throughout the year, which meant I got to my work as well as tell my story.

From a marketing perspective it was also a huge bonus to be recorded during a cake smash session. Potential clients were able to see the kind of service I provided. I remember the little boy I was photographing was not having a great day and I was faced with the challenge of photographing a crying child whilst being filmed for the series. Anyone else would have probably thought it was a disaster but I believed it was going to help me show potential clients how relaxed I can stay in any circumstances and how I manage to make any situation work. As you can see in the following photos I think I managed to get some great images for his parents. Who would believe he was crying in between these photos.
On the other hand the body painting went really smoothly and I was able to show a different side of me, the hobbyist photographer. They were able to see me in an environment where I was just having fun and doing what I love. After so many years doing their photos you get to know most of the models and artists and you become such great friends that you are like family. Like every year I sure did enjoy the full weekend of events.
